# Julius Malema calls for the halt of bilateral relations with Rwanda if there is involvement in the SANDF deaths

# EFF leader Julius Malema has demanded the halt of bilateral relations with Rwanda if they deliberately targeted the South African Defence Force soldiers, leading to 14 deaths in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He condemned the SANDF deployment, calling it reckless and unjustifiable. Malema also called for the closure of the Rwandan embassy if that country is implicated in the deaths:
# Tiger Brands has agreed to compensate the first victims of the listeriosis outbreak. The company will provide advance payments to certain claimants with urgent medical needs while the listeriosis class action continues. Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing to extend relief to other qualifying claimants. The National Institute for Communicable Diseases has also agreed to provide records to assist in the case. The class action remains in its first stage, determining liability.
# Oil prices rose this morning after US president Donald Trump imposed tariffs on Canadian and Mexican crude imports. Energy products from Canada will have only a 10-percent duty, but Mexican energy imports will be charged 25-percent. Reports indicate that OPEC’s ministerial meeting later today will review production cuts and market conditions, with voluntary cuts set to continue through early 2025. Collective cuts are set to remain in effect until the end of 2026.
# Tennis: Carlos Alcaraz regards world number one Jannik Sinner of Italy as the world’s best player at the moment. The Spaniard, currently ranked third, and Sinner are regarded as the Top Two of the new generation after each winning two Grand Slam titles last year. Alcaraz now has four while Sinner increased his tally to three in Australia last month. Alcaraz says Sinner makes the final or wins every tournament he’s playing in. Alcaraz is currently the top seed in the Rotterdam Open in the Netherlands.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-93-cents and the euro at 19-rand-39-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-30-cents and Bitcoin trades at 95-thousand-424-dollars. Gold sells at two-thousand-798-dollars-56-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 76-dollars-65-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane is saddened over the tragic passing of a Grade 12 learner from Krugersdorp High School during a cricket match at Christian Brothers’ College. The incident occurred when two players collided while fielding, resulting in one losing consciousness. Despite immediate medical attention, the learner passed away after suffering cardiac arrest. Spokesperson Steve Mabona extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family:
