# Eskom says five coal fired generation units have been successfully repaired and returned to service, adding a total of two-thousand-930-megawatts to the grid. The power utility suspended load-shedding today, following recovery of emergency reserves. Eskom spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena says an additional two-thousand-391-megawatts is expected to be restored today:
# The ANC Women’s League says the scourge of violence against women is unprecedented in South Africa. This follows the recent incident in Xhora in the Eastern Cape, where a vicious attack was allegedly meted out against an elderly woman by a local headman, Nkosi Ngubesilo Njuqwana. The ANC Women’s League spokesperson, Boitumelo Moiloa says South Africa’s principle of Ubuntu have been neglected even in rural communities, where African traditional norms and practices should prevail in defence of the vulnerable:
# The Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development is strongly advising limiting the movement of live cloven-hoofed animals in KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape as much as possible to prevent further Foot and Mouth Disease transmission. The department’s spokesperson, Joylene van Wyk says public awareness campaigns will be expanded to ensure that livestock owners remain vigilant:
# U.S. forces carried out airstrikes in Somalia yesterday, targeting a senior Islamic State attack planner and other members of the militant group, killing many of them. President Donald Trump said the killers, who they found hiding in caves, threatened the United States and its Allies. Trump said in a post on Truth Social the strikes destroyed the caves and killed many terrorists without harming civilians. The Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud extended his deepest gratitude for “the unwavering support of the United States in their shared fight against terrorism”.
# Cricket: Defending champions of the SA20-series, Eastern Cape Sunrisers, gave themselves a confidence booster ahead of their elimination clash against the Joburg Super Kings, when they claimed a 48-run victory over the Paarl Royals at St Georges Park yesterday. The Sunrisers also sealed their third place on the SA20 log and will meet the Joburg Super Kings in the eliminator playoff in Centurion on Wednesday. Yesterday, the Sunrisers posted 148-8 against Paarl Royals, courtesy of Jordan Hermann’s 53 off 38 balls and Tristan Stubbs’ 43 off 27. The home team dismissed the Paarl Royals for only 100.
