# Former president Jacob Zuma’s daughter and MK Party member of Parliament, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, says the case brought against her four years later is nothing more than a blatant attempt to intimidate her into silence. She faces charges of incitement to commit terrorism, and two counts of incitement to commit public violence for her role in the violence experienced in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng during July 2021. She will appear before the Durban High Court next month. Zuma-Sambudla says she will not be silenced.
# Opposition parties in the Western Cape are disappointed that provincial police commissioner, Thembisile Patekile has backtracked on his initial agreement to meet with members of the provincial legislature regarding the corruption allegations against Cape Town MEC for Safety and Security, JP Smith and MEC for Energy, Xanthea Limburg. During a telephone conversation on Thursday, the meeting was confirmed for Monday. The GOOD Party Secretary-General, Brett Herron says yesterday, they received a letter that Patekile will be unable to meet with opposition parties due to the “sensitivity of the investigation”:
# Eastern Cape MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Zolile Williams has placed Avela Njuqwana, the Headman of Tsholora Administrative area on precautionary suspension. The department’s spokesperson, Pheello Oliphant says the suspension follows an image and a video clip that went viral on social media platforms on Thursday in which the Headman assaulting an elderly woman in Elliotdale. He says Njuqwana violated the Traditional Leadership and Governance Act:
# The ANC has extended its heartfelt well-wishes to the founding father and the first president of Namibia, Sam Nujoma, who is currently hospitalised. The 95-year-old was elected Namibian president in 1990 and stepped down in 2005, and handed over power to president Hifikepunye Pohamba. The ANC’s spokesperson, Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri says the movement join the people of Namibia, the Nujoma family, Swapo Party and the international community in praying for his strength and full recovery:
# And cricket: Three teams – Joburg Super Kings, Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Pretoria Capitals – are now fighting for two spots in the knockout stages of the SA20 series. Despite their inconsistent performances leaving them scratching for crucial points in the closing stages of the opening round, the Joburg Super Kings remain confident of progressing to the play-offs this weekend. They are taking on Durban Super Giants at the Wanderers this afternoon at 5.30 pm. Paarl Royals and MI Cape Town have already qualified for the playoffs.
