# Weather disruptions affect flights at the George Airport
# And cricket: The Windies win their first Test in Pakistan in 34 years
# The South African Institute of Race Relations says it is drafting papers to challenge the Expropriation Act in court. Spokesperson Gabriel Crouse says the recently signed law allows for expropriation without compensation on an open-ended range of circumstances. He says the institute has vocally championed the property rights of all South Africans for years, and public opinion has been shown to be strongly against the erosion of these rights:
# Air Traffic and Navigation Services has warned that flight disruptions are expected at George Airport in the Western Cape today due to adverse weather. Corporate Affairs head Mphilo Dlamini says strong winds have made conditions unsafe for operations. Air Traffic and Navigation Services is monitoring the situation and will provide updates to airlines and stakeholders. Passengers are advised to stay informed about potential delays and cancellations.
Meanwhile, the DA has called for a parliamentary hearing to address escalating airport service breakdowns. The DA’s Transport spokesperson, Chris Hunsinger, says the recent fuel pump failures at Cape Town International and looming fuel shortages at OR Tambo highlight critical mismanagement. He urges Transport minister Barbara Creecy and the Airports Company to present a clear recovery plan, warning that ongoing instability threatens tourism, investor confidence, and South Africa’s economy:
# Heavy artillery fire could be heard in the centre of the besieged Congolese city of Goma, hours after Rwandan troops and fighters from the M23 armed group entered the eastern regional capital. Several heavy explosions were heard by AFP journalists at the scene as chaos descended on the city, which has been under siege for several days. A mass jailbreak was also taking place in Goma. The prison, which holds around three-thousand inmates, was torched afterwards. Fleeing prisoners could be seen in the surrounding streets.
# Cricket: The Windies won their first Test in Pakistan in 34 years when they beat the home side by 120 runs in the second match in Multan. The visitors were skittled out for just 163 in their first innings, but then bowled the hosts out for 154. The Windies scored 244 in their second innings to set Pakistan a target of 254. Spinner Jomel Warrican then took five wickets to help bowl them out for 133. The series ended in a draw after Pakistan won the first Test.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-55-cents and the euro at 19-rand-46-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-18-cents and Bitcoin trades at 98-thousand-938-dollars. Gold sells at two-thousand-763-dollars-88-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 77-dollars-73-cents a barrel.
