# The City of Cape Town says pop sensation Robbie Williams, world-renowned rock band Green Day, and a stellar line-up of local artists will share the stage for two days of electrifying music. The metro is thrilled to support the second edition of Calabash South Africa at Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday and Thursday. MEC for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says with a staggering 80-million album sales worldwide, and an incredible 14 number-one singles, the sensational Williams kicks off day one:
Meanwhile, Cape Town says it remains committed to completing the Table View Beachfront upgrades, and ensuring that all remaining work is carried out to the highest standards. The project faced significant challenges last year, including the termination of the contractor’s agreement with the metro, due to ongoing performance issues and failure to meet construction milestones. Deputy mayor Eddie Andrews says they will appoint new contractors and hopeful work will recommence in April.
# The 67 Blankets for Nelson Mandela Day initiative will mark eleven years of spreading warmth and unity with a special event. The celebration will be held at The Farmhouse at Steyn City in Gauteng on Saturday. Those attending the event are encouraged to donate handmade blankets or wool. These contributions will form part of the world’s largest blanket installation at Nelson Mandela University on March 20th, marking the United Nations International Day of Happiness. Founder Carolyn Steyn says this initiative has become a symbol of love.
# The Pitso Mosimane youth soccer programme has been praised for its role in advancing development at grassroots level. The initiative, now in its third year, has expanded to several schools in Cape Town and Mpumalanga, helping to nurture young talent across the country. Speaking to SABC News, national governing body Safa’s technical director, Walter Steenbok, highlighted the importance of such programmes in fast-tracking development:
# And finally: Disney’s Mufasa: The Lion King has remained at number one in the North American box office over the weekend. Sony’s One of Them Days starring Keke Palmer and singer SZA debuted at number two. The movie is the first female-led Black comedy since 2017’s Girls Trip. Universal’s Wolf Man reboot, which was projected to climb to number one, dropped to third. Paramount’s hit family film Sonic the Hedgehog 3 placed fourth in its fifth weekend with Lionsgate’s Den of Thieves 2: Pantera in fifth place.
