# ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa says due processes were followed according to the party’s constitution in expelling former president Jacob Zuma. MK Party leader Zuma has given the ANC until the 31st of January to reinstate him as a party member or face legal action. In a letter to the party, he listed at least 12 perceived transgressions by the ANC in his disciplinary process. Ramaphosa says the disciplinary process against Zuma has been concluded:
# The National Consumer Commission has launched an investigation into FlySafair following allegations of overbooking and overselling. The commission is reviewing the airline’s compliance with the Consumer Protection Act and has requested information from the airline to begin the inquiry. Head of Complaints and Investigations Prudence Moilwa says the investigation is a priority and urged affected consumers to come forward with any relevant information:
# Advocate Charles Mnisi has confirmed to the Pretoria High Court that he will take over as legal counsel for accused number one, Muzi Sibiya, in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial. This follows the sudden death of Sibiya’s lawyer, Thulani Mngomezulu, in December. Mnisi assured the court that defence preparations are underway. Mnisi, also represents accused number three, Mthobisi Mncube. Meyiwa’s trial is expected to resume on 20 January.
# The DA in Tshwane has applauded the first phase of clean water delivery to Hammanskraal, a project initiated under its coalition government. DA caucus leader Cilliers Brink lauded Magalies Water’s efforts in purifying water from the Pienaars River, bypassing the polluted Apies River. He has vowed to monitor infrastructure protection, payment systems, and water metering, promising continued oversight despite the significant milestone:
# President-elect Donald Trump has urged the US Supreme Court to pause his sentencing in the hush money case, a highly unusual request that relies in part on the court’s decision last year to grant him broad immunity from criminal prosecution. The request comes a day after a state appeals court in New York rejected his request to postpone his sentencing, which is set for Friday. Trump’s attorneys told the court the pause is required to prevent grave injustice and harm to the institution of the presidency and the operations of the federal government.
# Motorsport: South Africa’s Henk Lategan has managed to hold on to his overall lead at the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia, after finishing second in stage four of the race. Local favourite Yazeed Al-Rajhi won stage four between Al Henakiyah and Al-Ula with Argentina’s Juan Cruz Yacopini in third. Al-Rajhi is now second in the overall standings and just under seven-minutes behind Lategan, with Sweden’s Mattias Ekstrom 21-minutes-and-40-seconds behind in third place.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-91-cents and the euro at 19-rand-51-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-38-cents and Bitcoin trades at 95-thousand-195-dollar-60-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-662-dollars-59-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 76-dollars-12-cents a barrel.
