# The Johannesburg Metro Police Department’s Tactical Response officers have arrested former president Nelson Mandela’s grandchild after they recovered a hijacked vehicle and an unlicensed firearm at a Houghton property once owned by Nelson Mandela. Four more suspects were also arrested. The department’s spokesperson Xolani Fihla says the hijacking victim was found safe and unharmed:
# The Competition Commission says it is pleased that most schools are complying with their guidelines. This after the commission released its outcomes of the Competition Commission’s report on the interventions in school uniform procurement. The commission’s Karabo-Motaung Mohlala says the rising costs of school uniforms and stationery remain a significant burden on families. She told SABC News that schools must expand their supplier database in order to encourage competitive pricing:
# Police have arrested a 17-year-old mother in Umlazi after her one-year-old child allegedly shot himself while playing with a gun. According to Arrive Alive, the incident occurred on Monday at J Section. Police reports indicate that the boy was alone in the house while the mother was sweeping the yard. She heard a gunshot and found her child with a gunshot wound to the forehead. The investigation is ongoing.
# Cricket: New Zealand ripped through Sri Lanka’s top order to win the rain-reduced second one-day international in Hamilton by 113 runs and clinch the series 2-0. Sri Lanka spinner Maheesh Theekshana took a hat-trick as the home side posted 255 for 9 off 37 overs with Rachin Ravindra top scoring with 79. The tourists were 142 all out off 30.2 overs in response with Will O’Rourke taking 3 wickets for 31 runs. The third match will be played in Auckland on Saturday.
# Financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-81-cents and the euro at 19-rand-39-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-34-cents and Bitcoin trades at 95-thousand-719-dollars. Gold sells at two-thousand-651-dollars-21-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 76-dollars-69-cents a barrel.
# And finally: French magazine produced by autistic journalists went on sale on news stands for the first time today, further raising the profile of a project that has already made waves on television. Le Papotin has an editorial team of around 40 journalists with autism spectrum disorders who produce a yearly magazine that features high-profile celebrity interviews and cultural content. Normally print editions are sold via its website, but they are set to be distributed to around three-thousand shops and news stands in France.
