# ANC deputy president Paul Mashatile’s door-to-door campaign in Khayelitsha in the Western Cape ahead of the party’s January 8 rally, ended in chaos when a resident angrily demanded that the delegation leave his mother’s home. The confrontation escalated after Mashatile’s security blocked the man from entering the house. The man, carrying a child, shouted and insisted the politicians leave. Mashatile later apologised to the family, blaming the incident on security protocols:
# The Free State police says the Hawks are investigating the murder of two police officials, who were killed in Namahadi at the weekend. # Tennis: Three-time Grand Slam finalist Ons Jabeur stepped up her comeback ahead of the Australian Open by beating fourth seed Danielle Collins 7-6, 6-2 at the Adelaide International. The 40th-ranked Tunisian wildcard, who last week reached the Brisbane quarter-finals, had a shoulder injury last year that kept her off court after August. Collins, the 2022 Australian Open runner-up who cancelled a retirement scheduled for the end of 2024, was playing her first WTA match since September. Jabeur faces Kazakhstan’s Yulia Putintseva in the last 16.
