Good afternoon. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# Annual inflation edges up to 2.9-percent in November
# The EFF sets a post-matric qualification rule for leadership
# And golf: Famous players and their children or parents will take part in the PNC Championship in Orlando next week
# Annual inflation increased to 2.9-percent last month, slightly higher than October’s 2.8-percent. However, food inflation dropped to its lowest in 14-years, with prices for items like vegetables, bread, and dairy falling. Fuel prices increased by 0.9-percent, while restaurants and hotels saw a 5.9-percent rise in costs. Statistics South Africa’s Patrick Kelly says the poorest households continue to experience the highest inflation at 3.8-percent, while the wealthiest saw a rate of three-percent:
# The EFF now requires post-matric qualifications for members aspiring to join its central command team, which is the party’s top decision-making body. The policy amendment will be discussed at the third national people’s assembly starting tomorrow. Beyond academics, the command team members must display leadership skills, provide political training, and fundraise ethically. The EFF says this ensures strategic, capable leaders to guide the party and South Africa. Delegates will also elect new leaders and review key policies.
# The director-general of International Relations and Cooperation, Zane Dangor, says South Africa’s G20 sherpa agreed they need different competencies to drive a solution for the different challenges facing Africa. He says they found a way of operationalising the three task forces dealing with inclusive economic growth, industrialisation employment and inequality:
# Golf: Former world number one Tiger Woods and other famous players will take part in the annual family team exhibition tournament, the PNC Championship, in Orlando, Florida, next week. The American and his son, Charlie, will be joined by players such as German legend Bernhard Langer and his son, Jason, Vijay Singh from Fiji and his son, Qass, American Nelly Korda and her father, Petr, and Swedish player Annika Sorenstam and her son, Will McGee. The tournament will be played over 36 holes.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-84-cents and the euro at 18-rand-73-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-70-cents and Bitcoin trades at 98-thousand-420-dollars. Gold sells at two-thousand-694-dollars-47-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 72-dollars-56-cents a barrel.
# And finally: Pamela Anderson’s famous red swimsuit from Baywatch will go on display in London next year. The 57-year-old Canadian played lifeguard CJ Parker in the popular TV show in the 1990s. The one-piece is probably the world’s most famous swimming suit, with imitation versions bearing the Baywatch logo widely available online. It will be shown off at Design Museum’s exhibition, Splash! A Century of Swimming and Style, which opens in March. Anderson received her first-ever Golden Globe nomination this week for her role in The Last Showgirl.
