# Former teacher and Media24 journalist, Willem Breytenbach, has been sentenced to five years in prison for sexual and indecent assault. He pleaded guilty to seven counts of indecent assault and three counts of sexual assault in the Cape Town Regional Court last week. The court’s acceptance of his guilty plea followed a police investigation linked to Deon Wiggett’s podcast, My Only Story. Breytenbach is also banned from working with children and will be added to the national child protection and sex offender registers.
# O-R Tambo International Airport in Gauteng has announced it is facing refueling challenges which have led to flight delays. Airports Company South Africa confirmed that technicians are working urgently to resolve the issue. Passengers are advised to contact their airlines for updates or use the ACSA mobile app to stay informed through live flight notifications. The airport apologised for the inconvenience and urged patience.
# City Power in Johannesburg says it has submitted a comprehensive report to the National Energy Regulator of South Africa, strongly objecting to Eskom’s proposed tariff increases for the next three years. Eskom has applied to Nersa to approve a 36.15-percent electricity price hike from April next year, as part of its sixth multi-year price determination revenue application. City Power outlined that the increases should not exceed eleven-percent. Spokesperson, Isaac Mangena, says they also advocate for a more equitable approach to tariff adjustments:
# Cricket: Only South Africa, Australia and India are still in the running to reach next year’s final of the World Test Championship. The Proteas advanced to top position after completing a 2-nil series whitewash against Sri Lanka in Gqeberha today, with Australia second and India third. Proteas bowler Dane Paterson was named player of the match and captain Temba Bavuma player of the series. Bavuma says they realise victory in the coming two Tests against Pakistan will propel them to the final:
