Good morning. I am……..
In this bulletin:
# President Ramaphosa responds to Donald Trump’s threats
# Five suspected ATM robbers are shot dead and one is wounded in Mpumalanga
# And London is named the best city in the world for 2025
# President Cyril Ramaphosa says South Africa will facilitate diplomatic talks with US president-elect Donald Trump, rather than engage in social media clashes over bilateral matters. This comes after Trump threatened to impose 100-percent tariffs on BRICS countries if they were to create a rival currency to the US dollar. Brics has been made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa since 2011. Earlier this year, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Ethiopia, and Egypt formally joined. Ramaphosa says the G20 presidency will see South Africa work closely with the US.
# SACP general secretary, Solly Mapaila, says he believes the government of national unity won’t last for five years. The party, who is the ANC’s alliance partner, has been opposed to the coalition government, particularly to the inclusion of the DA. Speaking to eNCA, Mapaila said the DA continues to reflect an anti-working-class politics and economic policy posture, as seen in its opposition to the national minimum wage, the BELA Act, and the National Health Insurance:
# Five suspected ATM bombers were shot dead by police in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga, this morning. One other suspect was injured. Police spokesperson, Katlego Mogale, says a multi-disciplinary team was strategically posted at Schoongezicht, to be on the lookout for a white Toyota Hilux. She says the identified vehicle was spotted driving out from the area, and when the team attempted to stop the vehicle, suspects opened fire and a shootout ensued:
# Motorsport: Seven-time Formula One world champion, Lewis Hamilton, says the disappointing form on which he is ending his Mercedes career does not define their 12-year journey. The British driver incurred two penalties on his way to finishing 12th in the Qatar Grand Prix. He will drive his final race for the Silver Arrows at the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this weekend, as he is set to join Ferrari next season. Hamilton says he will give it his best shot in the final race:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-14-cents and the euro at 19-rand-9-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-3-cents and Bitcoin trades at 96-thousand-431-dollars-33-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-627-dollars-14-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 72-dollars-51-cents a barrel.
# And finally, known for its world-renowned museums and nightlife, London has been crowned the best city in the world for the tenth consecutive year. The 2025 World’s Best Cities report used a survey of more than 22-percent people in 30 countries to rank 270 of the world’s largest cities. The report says London’s resilient spirit and unmatched global appeal mean it continues to be a desirable city. New York was ranked second, followed by Paris, Tokyo and Singapore. Cape Town is 85th on the list.
