# Minister of Police Senzo Mchunu has applauded Operation Shanela’s results, with 262-thousand-396 arrests and seven-thousand-549 operations. Mchunu says public order policing led to two-thousand-756 arrests and major seizures, including 22.2-million-rand’s worth of counterfeit goods. Meanwhile, border policing nabbed six-thousand-610 individuals and confiscated drugs and stolen vehicles valued at over 564-million-rand. He called for collaboration across agencies to strengthen this initiative:
# The DA in the Western Cape has emphasised the need for 365 days of action against gender-based violence as 16 Days of Activism begins. DA provincial social development spokesperson, Wendy Kaizer-Philander calls for systemic measures, survivor support, and strengthened law enforcement nationwide. She highlights the province’s investment in safe homes and community partnerships, urging all sectors to prioritise sustained interventions to protect women and children:
# The Road Traffic Management Corporation is urging motorists to renew expiring vehicle licences, as 624-thousand-333 discs are due by November’s end, and one-million more by December. The Western Cape leads with 152-thousand-531 expiries. The corporation advises travellers to ensure vehicles are roadworthy and have a valid licence. In addition, freight operators must confirm drivers are fit and vehicles compliant. Motorists are urged to plan trips carefully, and checking routes, weather, and road construction.
# After spending more than 30 years behind bars for killing their parents, American brothers Lyle and Erik Menendez have a shot at being released from prison. The brothers will appear in court by video link today to discuss the next steps in their case, after the district attorney in Los Angeles agreed to re-examine the case. Members of the Menendez family have issued a public plea for the brothers to be released, alleging they endured horrific sexual abuse at the hands of their father and are not a threat to society.
# Cricket: Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant has become the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League. This follows after Lucknow Super Giants paid 57.7-million-rand for the lefthander’s services for next year’s edition of the super popular T20 competition. This breaks the record of 52.9-million-rand Kolkata Knight Riders invested in Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc last year. Protea bowler Kagiso Rabada was sold to Gujarat Titans for 23-million-rand, and David Miller for 16-million to Lucknow.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-3-cents and the euro at 18-rand-95-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-70-cents and Bitcoin trades at 97-thousand-398-dollars. Gold sells at two-thousand-684-dollars-9-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 74-dollars-43-cents a barrel.
