# President Cyril Ramaphosa is leading South Africa at the Group of Twenty Leaders’ Summit in Rio de Janeiro Brazil from tomorrow until Tuesday. The summit will be held under the theme “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet. Today, Ramaphosa will be participating in the launch of the Leveraging the Potential of Renewables – The Road to Johannesburg Campaign. South Africa will be officially handed the G20 Presidency during the Rio Leaders’ Summit and will continue to consolidate initiatives of its global south predecessors from next month under the rallying call of Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability.
# Government says illegal firearms pose a danger to communities, and is urging all South Africans to report illegal firearms to the police. Government Communication and Information System’s Jessica Mahlangu says any unlicensed firearm is considered illegal in accordance with the firearm Control Act. Mahlangu says citizens who have illegal firearms must surrender it immediately to prevent crime and save lives:
# The University of Pretoria says extortion crimes has gained significant traction in South Africa to reach endemic levels. The university’s Noluthando Buthelezi says South Africa is seeing an increase in organised groups targeting smaller economic sectors like small foreign-owned businesses, the taxi industry, schools, certain private household businesses and the construction sector:
# Rugby: Fly-half Thomas Ramos kicked 15 points to help France beat New Zealand 30-29 in a thrilling Test in Paris last night. Romain Buros, Paul Boudehent and Louis Bielle-Biarrey were the hosts’ try-scorers as they claimed a third-straight win over the All Blacks, having trailed 14-3 after half an hour. “To beat a big team like that always gives you confidence,” France captain Antoine Dupont told the media afterwards. The DA’s Andrew de Blocq van Scheltinga says captive lion breeding underpins the twin industries of canned lion hunting and the lion bone trade.
