# The DA says the call by president Cyril Ramaphosa to have all spaza shops in South Africa registered with local municipality within 21 days, after complying with all health and other compliance requirements, is unrealistic. Meanwhile, the IFP is commending the government of national unity’s commitment to prioritising the health and well-being of South Africans, and addressing concerns around food contamination and safety. The IFP’s Mkhuleko Hlengwa says these proactive steps prioritise the health and well-being of South Africans, addressing concerns around food contamination and safety. # President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says Ukraine must do all it can to ensure the war with Russia ends next year through diplomacy. In a Ukrainian radio interview aired over the weekend, Zelenskyy said Russian president Vladimir Putin was, however, not interested in agreeing to a peace deal, and argued it was convenient for Moscow to sit down to talk while continuing to fight. Zelenskyy says the war is likely to end quicker under US president-elect Trump, who said often during his campaign that he would rapidly end the conflict.
# And soccer: Bafana Bafana’s coach, Hugo Broos praised their 2-0 win over Uganda on Friday, stating it proved their Afcon 2025 qualification was deserved and not due to luck. The victory took Bafana to 11 points, placing them ahead of Uganda in Group K, with one game remaining against South Sudan in Cape Town on Tuesday. Broos aims to finish the qualifiers unbeaten, highlighting newfound consistency, and expects a full house in Cape Town for their first game there in nine years.
