# The DA says the decrease in the unemployment rate means economic reforms must be accelerated
# Rise Mzansi urges urgent action to tackle the water crisis
# And prince William is named the world’s sexiest bald man
# The DA says the latest unemployment figures attest to its commitment to South Africans, sustainable, inclusive economic growth, and meaningful job creation. StatsSA’s latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey reveals a decrease in the unemployment rate from 33.5-percent to 32.1-percent. However, youth unemployment continues to sit high at 43.2-percent. The DA says this green shoots in jobs numbers must accelerate economic reform including breaking Eskom’s power monopoly and addressing weak service delivery within local governments.
Meanwhile, ActionSA has welcomed the slight improvement in South Africa’s employment numbers but calls for bolder measures to tackle the unemployment crisis. ActionSA’s Alan Beesley asks for stricter regulation of the township economy to create more jobs:
# Rise Mzansi says the escalating water crisis needs urgent action, and shares similarities with the energy crisis. According to the party, the crisis is natural and manmade, worsened by ageing infrastructure and inadequate management. Rise Mzansi’s Makashule Gana calls for investment in water systems to ensure reliable water access for both urban and rural communities:
# The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, has resigned, saying he was sorry for failing to ensure a proper investigation into allegations of abuse against a volunteer at Christian summer camps of the Church of England. John Smyth is accused of abusing over 100 boys and young men in the United Kingdom and Africa over five decades. An independent review found Smyth might have been brought to justice if Welby formally reported the matter to police a decade ago. Welby says it’s clear he must take personal and institutional responsibility.
# Cricket: Former Proteas batter Neil McKenzie will fulfil the role of consultant coach for Sri Lanka ahead of their Test tour of South Africa. He will join the visitors from today for just over a week. The chief of the Sri Lankan Cricket Board, Ashley de Silva, says McKenzie will bring in vital, in-depth insights about local conditions. The first Test starts at Kingsmead in Durban on the 27th and the second one at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on the fifth of December.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-10-cents and the euro at 19-rand-21-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-7-cents and Bitcoin trades at 88-thousand-491-dollar. Gold sells at two-thousand-597-dollars-91-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 71-dollars-71-cents a barrel.
# And finally: For the second consecutive year, Prince William has been named the world’s sexiest bald man. This is according to Reboot Online, which looked at different factors including how shiny the men’s heads are, their facial golden ratio, height, and smile. The 42-year-old Prince of Wales scored 9.9 out of a possible total of 10 points. Second on the list is Hollywood superstar Dwayne ‘The Rock’ with a score of 8.9, followed by Basketball icon Shaquille O’Neal in third.
