# A coalition of organisations is urging tighter pesticide controls after food poisoning from spaza shop products affected several learners. Women on Farms’ Kara MacKay highlights the toxic pesticide terbufos, linked to the deaths of six Naledi learners in Soweto, calling for its immediate ban. She also calls for accountability for those involved in its distribution:
# The EFF says it condemns the lack of executive accountability demonstrated by ministers in the government of national unity in their duties to Parliament. The most recent report shows that since the beginning of the seventh Parliament, there have been one-thousand-269 questions submitted for written replies, with 129 not replied to. A total of 593 of these questions were replied to late, beyond the ten days provided. The EFF says president Cyril Ramaphosa must remove the ministers who have neglected their parliamentary duties.
# In a bid to crack down on streaming device piracy rings, MultiChoice in partnership with Gauteng law enforcement agencies conducted two successful anti-piracy operations in Florida, Mayfair, Ormonde, Booysens, and Kempton Park. The operation led to the arrests of several people allegedly involved in the illegal distribution of streaming devices, preloaded with unauthorised applications for accessing DStv and other premium content. MultiChoice says these raids represent significant victories in its ongoing campaign to protect its content.
# Republican candidate Donald Trump has declared this election campaign America’s golden age to restore national greatness. After casting his vote, Trump called the campaign the greatest political movement of all time. He also emphasised the role of healing the nation. Trump is currently leading the votes at 51.2-percent against Democrat Kamala Harris’s 47.4-percent. He vowed to address key issues for America’s future:
# Rugby: Springbok Women’s Sevens assistant coach, Cecil Afrika, says as the defending champions they are extra motivated to do well in the Africa Women’s Sevens tournament in Accra, Ghana, this weekend. South Africa will face Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, and Tunisia in Pool A on Saturday. The tournament will serve as the qualifier for the 2025 World Rugby Challenger Series. Afrika says despite the pressure, the players know what is needed to be successful:
