# Former US president Donald Trump has won two crucial swing states, Georgia and North Carolina, while the remaining five battleground states have yet to be called. According to reports, vice-president Kamala Harris now cannot win the election without winning Pennsylvania, in which Trump holds a lead, with around 90-percent of the votes counted. A short while ago, Trump had 246 electoral votes while Harris had 194. The presidential candidates need at least 270 electoral votes to win the presidency. Meanwhile, Republicans have retaken the majority in the Senate.
Back home:
# Home Affairs minister Leon Schreiber says South Africa needs a zero-tolerance approach to individuals breaking immigration laws. He recently revealed that between April and August this year, the department deported 19-thousand-750 illegal immigrants, costing taxpayers 52-million-rand. Schreiber says the country should not be seen as a free-for-all:

The most recent report shows that since the beginning of the seventh Parliament, there have been one-thousand-269 questions submitted for written replies, with 129 not replied to. A total of 593 of these questions were replied to late, beyond the ten days provided. The EFF says president Cyril Ramaphosa must remove the ministers who have neglected their parliamentary duties.
# The Freedom Front Plus has condemned the intimidation by minibus taxi associations in Mpumalanga. They demand immediate action against this behaviour, as social media videos show alleged security personnel threatening drivers, forcing them off the road and enforcing illegal fines. The FF Plus’s Werner Weber criticised the lack of action from authorities and vows to keep monitoring the situation to ensure an end to the intimidation on the roads:
# Rugby: Springbok Women’s Sevens assistant coach, Cecil Afrika, says as the defending champions they are extra motivated to do well in the Africa Women’s Sevens tournament in Accra, Ghana, this weekend. South Africa will face Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, and Tunisia in Pool A on Saturday. The tournament will serve as the qualifier for the 2025 World Rugby Challenger Series. Afrika says despite the pressure, the players know what is needed to be successful:
