# The General Industries Workers Union of South Africa says it argues that alternative funding for Eskom should be prioritised, including the cancellation of its debt. Giwusa president Mametlwe Sebei says Eskom’s financial crises are exacerbated by the swindles of coal mining and oil supply companies, alongside BEE-related corruption in outsourcing deals and Independent Power Producers, all of which are plundering and profiteering from Eskom:
# Education activist Hendrick Makaneta has expressed heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Professor Chabani Manganyi, who passed away on Saturday. Manganyi was an esteemed academic and former deputy vice-chancellor at the University of Pretoria. Makaneta says Manganyi was not only a respected scholar, but also a compassionate mentor who guided countless students, educators, and leaders:
# The Advertising Appeals Committee has upheld a ruling favoring L’Oreal South Africa in its complaint against Nutriwomen, which allegedly copied the packaging of L’Oreal’s CERAVE skincare range. Despite Nutriwomen’s appeal against the May ruling, the committee found the Dermacare packaging substantially similar. Nutriwomen still has one final appeal option available. If unsuccessful, it must change its packaging within three months.
# Motorsport: Oscar Piastri obeyed McLaren team orders to gift Lando Norris a Sao Paulo sprint-race victory yesterday. The McLaren one-two finish cut Max Verstappen’s Formula One lead over his British rival to 45 points. It was the first time this season that Verstappen has been beaten in a sprint. Meanwhile, qualifying for the Sao Paulo Formula One Grand Prix has been postponed to today after heavy rain over the Interlagos circuit yesterday. More rain is forecast for today.
# And, an Australian saltwater crocodile that held the world record as the largest crocodile in captivity has died. Cassius, weighing in at more than one tonne, had been in declining health since mid-October. The Marineland Melanesia Crocodile Habitat based on Green Island near the Queensland tourist town of Cairns said he lived at the sanctuary since 1987 after being transported from the neighbouring Northern Territory where crocodiles are a key part of the region’s tourist industry. He was thought to be at least 110 years old and measured 5.48 metres.
