# Build One South Africa leader Mmusi Maimane says Botswana election signals a powerful warning to liberation parties in Africa that have evolved into authoritarian regimes. BOSA’s Roger Solomons says Botswana’s choice to embrace change and elect Duma Koko as president comes on the heels of Zambia’s election of Hakainde Hichilema in 2021, a sign of an encouraging trend across Southern Africa:
# The GOOD party says the City of Cape Town’s evictions of people living at the Castle of Good Hope follow a trend of undermining the dignity of the poor, the working class, and the unemployed. The GOOD Party Roscoe Palm says Cape Town’s portrayal of itself as a victim of illegal occupation is misleading, since the City relocated to people to the Castle site during the Covid-19 pandemic:
# The National Bargaining Council for the Road Freight and Logistics Industry and unions have signed a two-year wage agreement covering industry and extended bargaining unit employees. From March 2025, wages will increase by seven-percent in the first year and six-percent in the second. Additionally, allowances such as night shift and cross-border will also see increases. The bargaining council lauded the agreement as a stabilising force for the industry.
# Kamala Harris has made an unannounced trip to New York to appear on an episode of Saturday Night Live. The US presidential candidate has been busy in the battleground states during the final weekend of campaigning. She departed from North Carolina on Air Force Two earlier and detoured to New York. Her appearance on the show was confirmed by three people familiar with her plans but not authorised to speak publicly about them. It is the final Saturday Night Live episode before election day on Tuesday and is being hosted by comedian John Mulaney.
# And, rugby: New Zealand clinched a 24-22 victory over England, with winger Mark Tele’a scoring the match-winning try and Damian McKenzie adding a late penalty to seal the comeback at Twickenham. England led 22-14 with 13 minutes left, thanks to Marcus Smith’s 17-point haul and Immanuel Feyi-Waboso’s try, but a missed drop goal from George Ford in the dying minutes of the match sealed their fate. New Zealand continues their tour against Six Nations champions Ireland in Dublin on Friday, with England facing Australia at Twickenham on Saturday.
