# The ANC reiterates its support for the Palestinian people amid the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The national executive committee commended government’s submission of evidence to the International Court of Justice on the alleged genocide by Israel. Addressing the media in Boksburg, ANC secretary general Fikile Mbalula urged the international community to condemn the escalating violence against Palestinians and Lebanon, calling for a ceasefire and humanitarian aid:
# ActionSA Gauteng leader Funzi Ngobeni has raised concern over severe water waste due to inadequate management of public facilities. Ngobeni highlights significant leaks and demands immediate repairs, infrastructure upgrades and accountability from municipalities. Ngobeni emphasises that residents deserve better resource management to prevent further strain. He calls for immediate, decisive action to address the crisis:
# Tech billionaire Elon Musk is being sued by Philadelphia’s district attorney over his one-million-dollar giveaways in support of American Republican Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. The money is being given away daily until election day next week. The giveaway requires entrants to sign a petition backing the First and Second Amendments of the Constitution and calls for them to serve as spokespeople for Musk’s organisation, Musk’s America PAC. The office of Democratic district attorney Larry Krasner says it has to protect the public from interference with the integrity of the election.
# Soccer: African champions Banyana Banyana will face the European champions, England, in Coventry tonight, seeking redemption after a 5-nil loss to Denmark last week. Coach Desiree Ellis has welcomed back key players Thembi Kgatlana, Linda Motlhalo, Hildah Magai and Sinoxolo Cesane, adding much-needed experience. Ellis emphasises strengthening the defense ahead of the clash, with both teams preparing for major competitions – Banyana for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and England for the Euro 2025 campaign.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-72-cents and the euro at 19-rand-11-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-1-cent and Bitcoin trades at 71-thousand-127-dollars-24-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-756-dollars-50-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 75-dollars-91-cents a barrel.
# And finally: The South African Rooibos Council recommends rooibos as a natural, caffeine-free alternative to coffee and energy drinks for exam-bound university students and learners. Its high antioxidant content supports cognitive function, while its anti-inflammatory properties aid brain health, potentially enhancing memory and focus. The council’s spokesperson, Adéle du Toit, says unlike caffeinated drinks that can cause crashes and anxiety, rooibos offers sustained energy, supports hydration and promotes calm by reducing stress hormones.
