Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# We start with rugby: The Wallabies will play the All Blacks in the Bledisloe Cup in Perth next year, and the Pumas in the Rugby Championship in Townsville and Sydney. The Test against New Zealand on 4 October will only be the third Bledisloe Cup Test to be played in Perth, and Townsville will host a Test for the first time in four years on September 6. Rugby Australia says they decided to play the All Blacks in Perth following this year’s massive interest for the Test against the Springboks.
More rugby news: England head coach Steve Borthwick has called up veteran flyhalf George Ford, Alex Coles, and Ted Hill to the 36-player squad ahead of their international opener against New Zealand at Twickenham on Saturday. Ford was required to prove his fitness after suffering a quad injury while playing for Sale. Ollie Chessum has been ruled out of the Test due to a knee injury while Charlie Ewels is currently following return-to-play protocols. The match is the first of four fixtures for England who also play Australia, South Africa, and Japan.
# Cricket: Former Proteas player and coach Gary Kirsten has stepped down from his role as Pakistan’s limited-overs head coach. He was appointed by the Pakistan Cricket Board on a two-year deal in April. Kirsten’s major assignment was the men’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies and the USA, where Pakistan suffered an early exit with losses against India and America. Test coach Jason Gillespie will take over Kirsten’s role for the tour of Australia, which begins next Monday.
Meanwhile, the Lions secured their second consecutive T20 Challenge title by beating the Titans by eight wickets at the Wanderers in Johannesburg. Lutho Sipamla took four wickets as the Titans were bowled out for 119. In reply, Rassie van der Dussen and Connor Esterhuizen scored an unbeaten 98-run stand for the third wicket as the Lions reached 124 for two with 29 balls to spare. The Lions now have six titles.
# And tennis: Italian Jasmine Paolini has improved to her best ever position of fourth in the latest world rankings. American Danielle Collins, Russian Anna Kalinskaya and Spaniard Paula Badosa all improved their positions to tenth, eleventh and 12th, respectively. Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus is still number one, followed by Poland’s Iga Swiatek and American Coco Gauff. Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan is fifth, followed by American Jessica Pegula, China’s Qinwen Zheng, American Emma Navarro and Russian Daria Kasatkina.
