# President Ramaphosa says the government of national unity is about creating jobs and growing the economy
# Transnet warns about a fuel supply risk
# And Nancy Pelosi says Netanyahu has never believed in a two-state solution
# ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa says the ANC-led government of national unity has been all about creating jobs, growing the economy, and tackling crime in communities. He provided a comprehensive reflection of the first 100 days since the formation of the government of national unity in Gauteng yesterday evening. Ramaphosa says under the coalition government, the ANC will continue to lead the transformation of South Africa:
Meanwhile, Gauteng ANC chairperson Panyaza Lesufi has warned against individuals seeking to undermine the leadership of the movement. ANC secretary-general Fikile Mbalula and Lesufi have been at loggerheads over the government of national unity. He has also been at odds with DA federal council chairperson Helen Zille, who has labelled him rogue and the stumbling block to an ANC/DA coalition in Gauteng. Speaking at the ANC’s celebration event of the 100 days of the government of national unity, Lesufi says the ANC leadership must be respected:
# Transnet has warned that South Africa’s rising reliance on fuel imports at 61-percent of supply, has increased the risk of shortages. The logistics firm highlights the need for improved infrastructure to store and transport fuel. Transnet says following refinery shutdowns and stricter fuel standards, the country’s refining capacity has dwindled. It plans investments in Durban’s port, including storage tanks, and a jet fuel pipeline.
# The South African Municipal Workers’ Union has welcomed a Labour Court ruling to hear the City of Tshwane’s two salary review cases together next month. SAMWU demands the implementation of the 3.5-percent and 5.4-percent salary increases. The union blames the DA-led coalition for politicising the issue and urges the new leadership to prioritise workers’ welfare. The union says it remains committed to ensuring fair compensation for its members.
# Former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu has never believed in peace or a two-state solution. The landmark ruling of the International Court of Justice in July called for the immediate end of Israel’s illegal occupation and apartheid rule. The ruling reinforced a clear pathway to peace based on a sovereign state of Palestine in the context of the two-state solution. Pelosi says the US has always supported a two-state solution:
# Rugby: Bulls’ director of rugby, Jake White says they will try and have centre David Kriel’s red card in the weekend’s United Rugby Championship match against Ospreys in Swansea rescinded. The Pretoria team won 29-19 despite Springbok flanker Elrigh Louw being yellow-carded, leaving them with 13 players in the last ten minutes. Kriel’s hand-off was initially regarded as being fine by referee Eoghan Cross, but the crowd’s reaction led to a replay and a red card. White praised his players for nevertheless grinding out the victory.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-55-cents and the euro at 19-rand-15-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-94-cents and Bitcoin trades at 65-thousand-862-dollar-55-cents.
