# Eskom has today successfully delivered 200 consecutive days of uninterrupted power supply since 26 March this year as a result of the Generation Operational Recovery Plan. Eskom’s spokesperson, Daphne Mokwena says the plan has not only reduced unplanned outages by 8.6-percent and improved the Energy Availability Factor by 7.7-percent, enhancing the reliability of the generation fleet, but has positively impacted the economic outlook and Eskom’s profitability:
# KwaZulu-Natal police have arrested a suspect who allegedly stabbed seven of his family members, killing five of them at his home at Bethany area in Bergville on Saturday night. Police spokesperson, Robert Netshiunda says the suspect and his uncle went to visit the neighbours and on their return, the suspect found his mother sitting in the lounge with others. He says the suspect took a knife from the couch and stabbed his mother who managed to run outside of the house:
# The Israeli military ordered residents of 22 southern Lebanese villages on Saturday to evacuate to areas north of the Awali River, which flows from the western Bekaa Valley into the Mediterranean. The order, communicated via a military statement, mentions villages in southern Lebanon that have been recent targets of Israeli attacks, many of which are already almost empty. The Israeli military stated that evacuations were necessary for the safety of residents due to increased Hezbollah activities.
# Tennis: World number one Jannik Sinner secured an end-of-year ATP number 1 ranking by reaching the finals of the Shanghai Masters currently underway in the Chinese city. The 23-year-old Italian is the winner of both the Australian Open and US Open and won three of his last four match-ups with Djokovic. The Serbian, the world number 4, aims to become third man to win his 100th ATP Tour title and looks to claim his fifth Shanghai Masters crown.
# And, the City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre coordinated an emergency exercise at Van Riebeeck Strand Primary School in Melkbosstrand. The emergency exercise at a school coincided with International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, which is commemorated annually on 13 October. Mayoral committee member for Safety and Security, JP Smith says the school is in the Precautionary Action Zone due to its proximity to the Koeberg Nuclear Power Plant:
