# Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Dion George, and Norway’s minister of Climate and Environment, Tore Onshuus Sandvik, have been appointed to steer informal consultations on climate mitigation before and during the United Nations Climate Change Conference. COP29 will be held in Baku, Azerbaijan, in November, where countries will meet to measure progress and negotiate multilateral responses to climate change. George says the designation of South Africa as a ministerial co-facilitator, recognises the country’s long-standing leadership role at the international multi-lateral climate negotiations.
# The DA in Limpopo says it will submit a motion in the legislature to debate the state of freshwater resources in the province. Minister of Water and Sanitation, Pemmy Majodina, has revealed that between 2019 and 19 September this year, 28 wastewater treatment works in Limpopo were issued with directives specific to raw sewage spillage into freshwater resources. The DA’s Lindy Wilson says the lack of consequence management will further exacerbate the struggle to provide drinking water:
# And finally: The Department of Water and Sanitation has warned communities along the Vaal and Harts Rivers to avoid using untreated water due to the presence of cholera bacteria found in five locations during routine testing. Spokesperson Wisane Mavasa has advised local municipalities to ensure proper water treatment, while residents are urged to boil water before consumption:
