# A suspect has been arrested in connection with the Lusikisiki massacre in the Eastern Cape. Eighteen people, including 15 women, were shot dead in two homesteads in Ngobozana village a week ago. The 45-year-old suspect, who was arrested on Monday evening, is expected to appear in the local Magistrate’s Court today. This follows earlier reports of the arrest of three suspects, but it was explained later they were just persons of interest.
# The ANC has resolved to support ActionSA councillor Nasiphi Moya as Tshwane’s new mayor following the ousting of the DA’s Cilliers Brink through a motion of no confidence. Council is set to elect its fourth mayor in three years today. Moya is the current acting mayor. The ANC’s Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri says Moya is the best candidate to turn Tshwane around:
# The winner or winners of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry will be announced today, continuing a week filled with prestigious awards. This follows the earlier recognition of groundbreaking contributions in physiology or medicinem and physics. Member of the Nobel committee at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, Ellen Moons, says the physics laureates, John Hopfield and Geoffrey Hinton, used tools from physics to develop methods that are the foundation of today’s powerful machine learning of artificial intelligence:
# Cycling: Namibia’s gruelling annual Desert Dash had been launched in Windhoek, celebrating 20 years of the event. The 401 kilometer race starts at Grove Mall in the capital on 6 December and ends outside Swakopmund on the coast the next day. Organiser Leander Borg says over 900 cyclists have already registered, including 190 solo riders and 15 e-bike participants:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-63-cents and the euro at 19-rand-33-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-7-cents and Bitcoin trades at 62-thousand-181-dollars-99-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-612-dollars-50-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 77-dollars-43-cents a barrel.
# And finally: The South African National Christian Forum says Rhema Bible Church founder pastor Ray McCauley will be remembered as one of the great Christian leaders in South Africa. He passed away at the age of 75 yesterday evening. The forum’s president, Bishop Marothi Mashashane, says McCauley’s contributions and expertise in the field of Christianity have been widely acknowledged:
