# International Relations and Co-operation minister, Ronald Lamola, says South Africa will file its memorial regarding its genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice by the end of the month. The government intends to provide facts and evidence to prove that Israel is committing genocide in Palestine. The minister hosted the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed, in Pretoria yesterday. Lamola says a permanent ceasefire is needed in the Middle East:
# The South African Human Rights Commission says while the judiciary is not above criticism, such criticisms must be within the ambit of the law. This as the commission says it has taken note of former Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s comments following her unsuccessful appeal bid in the Supreme Court of Appeal. She said that her ongoing struggle has consistently involved key figures, predominantly of Indian descent, who have positioned themselves as her persecutors. The commission emphasised protecting equality, dignity, and justice as enshrined in the Constitution.
# The National Transmission Company South Africa has officially launched, following the issuance of key licenses by the National Energy Regulator. The Eskom subsidiary will focus on expanding the grid for renewable energy projects. Electricity and Energy minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa announced plans to spend 122-billion-rand over five years to connect 30-GiggaWatts of renewable energy, promoting fair access and competitive electricity markets:
# National Police Commissioner, Fannie Masemola, says he is confident that police are following a positive lead, in apprehending suspects linked to the killing of six community patrollers in Qumbu, Eastern Cape. Unknown gunmen opened fire on a group of community patrollers at Tina Falls on Sunday evening, killing six and injuring four others. Police spokesperson, Nonkululeko Phokane, says arrests are imminent:
# Tennis: Denmark’s Holger Rune came from behind to defeat Italian Matteo Berrettini, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, and reach the third round of the Shanghai Masters. The match was originally scheduled for last Saturday but was delayed by persistent rain at the Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena. Italian Flavio Cobolli beat Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka, 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, to set up a third-round meeting with record-four-time champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia. Gold sells at two-thousand-642-dollars-93-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 79-dollars-70-cents a barrel.
