# The United Nations’ Industrial Development Organisation says South Africa’s economy is increasingly threatened by climate change impacts, resulting in a scarcity of important natural resources. The country is currently embarking on a just transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient and environmentally sustainable economy. UNIDO says the Industry Climate Change Adaptation Project supports industries in the development of desirable pathways and more sustainable practices to transition to climate-resilient operations.
# Through generous contributions, the Garden Route Birds of Prey Rehab Centre in George in the Western Cape, has once again opened its doors to the public. This follows extensive renovation and repairs caused by storms. The centre’s primary focus is on rehabilitating birds of prey to be released back into their natural habitats. Founder Bertus Beukes says the public responded to a call for assistance:
# And finally: A state of emergency has been declared in parts of Florida as tropical storm Milton has intensified into a category one hurricane. This comes days after Hurricane Helene caused devastation and destruction in several states including Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina, killing at least 225 people. Florida governor, Ron DeSantis, says he has ordered all disaster management sites to remain open as the state rushes to remove debris left in the wake of Hurricane Helene:
