# The Eastern Cape government has condemned the loss of 20 lives in two incidents. Seventeen people were killed in a mass shooting in Lusikisiki, while two toddlers and a baby died from suspected food poisoning in Mdantsane. Spokesperson Khuselwa Rantjie says premier Oscar Mabuyane has condemned the violence. In addition, psycho-social support will be provided to affected families:
Meanwhile, the African Transformation Movementcondemned the fatal shooting in Lusikisiki. ATM calls for swift justice, urging authorities to apprehend the perpetrators and investigate any ringleaders involved. They encourage community cooperation to ensure arrests. ATM spokesperson Zama Ntshona has requested a national dialogue on violence prevention and a referendum on a justice-based death penalty:
# The MK Party Youth League has criticises the Western Cape High Court’s judgment on John Hlophe’s appointment to the Judicial Service Commission, calling it biased and unfounded. Spokesperson, Nkateko Mkhabela, accuses the DA, Freedom under Law, and Afriforum of disrespecting the South African Constitution. She says the league pledge to challenge the neocolonial influence over the judiciary and government:
# Donald Trump met Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelensky at his New York base in Trump Tower and said it was time Russia’s war in Ukraine was settled. The Republican presidential nominee has repeatedly criticised the Ukrainian leader on the US campaign trail, and a meeting between the pair had seemed unlikely. As the two men stood side by side, Zelensky said he thought they had a “common view that the war has to be stopped and Putin can’t win”, adding that he would discuss with Trump details of his “victory plan”.
Rugby: The Springboks sealed the Rugby Championship title in emphatic fashion with a dominating 48-7 win over Argentina at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday, for their first Rugby Championship crown since 2019. The Boks scored tries through Aphelele Fassi and Pieter-Steph du Toit with two each, Cheslin Kolbe, Malcolm Marx and Jesse Kriel. Argentina’s sole contributor was Tomas Albornoz, who scored a try and a conversion. Pieter-Steph du Toit, scooped another Player of the Match accolade. It was also a special game for Bok lock Eben Etzebeth, who broke Victor Matfield’s record of 128 Bok Tests.
