# The National Sea Rescue Institute is urging caution as recent heavy snowfalls may lead to swollen rivers. With summer approaching and school vacations underway, the NSRI advises South Africans and tourists to stay informed about weather updates and practice water safety. The institute’s spokesperson Craig Lambinon urges the public to be mindful of hazardous conditions along coastal and inland waters:
# The General Industries Workers Union of South Africa is calling on the Nigerian government to drop all charges against #EndBadGovernance protestors and release all protestors from prison. Giwusa president Mametlwe Sebei says the charges, including treason, which carries the death penalty, brought against activists such as Adaramoye Michael, National Coordinator of the Youth Rights Campaign, and Mosiu Sodiq, both in Abuja, are ludicrous:
# The DA in the Western Cape says it is unlikely that the South African Police Service Training Academy in Philippi will meet the target of securing ten-thousand new recruits this financial year. The party conducted an oversight visit to the academy last week, following allegations including misappropriations of funds. The DA’s, Lisa Schickerling, says should the SAPS meet its target, the quality of recruits will bring significant concern, presenting another step back in the fight against crime:
# Tennis: Carlos Alcaraz shot down comparisons with 20-time Grand Slam winner Roger Federer moments after his victory over Taylor Fritz won the Laver Cup for Team Europe yesterday. The 21-year-old Spaniard, playing in the tournament for the first time, beat Fritz 6-2, 7-5 to win the tournament in Berlin. After his win, the four-time Grand Slam winner was compared to Federer, but Alcaraz said such a comparison was “impossible”. He said he is too far away from that level and hopes to reach it one day.
