# Mayor Cilliers Brink accuses ActionSA of political deceit amid coalition turmoil
# The EFF says Cape Town’s tariff increase exceeds Nersa’s approval
# And Rugby: Werner Kok hopes to make an impact at Ulster
# Tshwane mayor Cilliers Brink has accused ActionSA of political incompetence and being deceitful after it decided to exit the DA-led coalition in the metro. This shift could allow the ANC and EFF to unseat Brink in a looming motion of no-confidence vote. Despite the turmoil, the mayor outlined the improvements in the city’s finances and committed to serving residents amid instability:
# The EFF says the DA-led government in Cape Town has exceeded approved electricity tariff increases, implementing a 17.6-percent hike instead of the National Energy Regulator of South Africa’s 15.1-percent hike. The party argues Cape Town’s tariffs are higher than other municipalities, resulting in excessive profits. In his address during Parliament’s electricity debate, EFF’s Nazier Paulsen criticised the city’s legal fight with Nersa, warning that consumers could bear the cost of overcharges if the city loses:
# The MANCOSA School of Information and Digital Technology says more is needed to eliminate the risks associated with tech skills shortages in South Africa. MANCOSA manager, Trisha Govender says the shortage persists due to the dynamic nature of cyber threats, slow talent pipeline growth, and reliance on human factors, which remain vulnerable to error.
# Mark Robinson, the Republican governor’s candidate in North Carolina, promises to stay in the race after CNN reported he once called himself a “black Nazi”. He is also said to have proposed bringing back slavery in comments posted on a pornography website. The African American, who denies making the comments, is running for governor of North Carolina in November against Democratic candidate Josh Stein, the state’s attorney general. Robinson, who was endorsed by Donald Trump, reportedly has a history of inflammatory comments.
# Rugby: The United Rugby Championship kicks off this weekend with six games. One of those matches will see Ulster hosting Glasgow Warriors. Ulster has a new South African in their squad – Werner Kok. The Sharks winger and former World Rugby Sevens Player of the Year joined the Irish province on a two-year deal. The 31-year-old says he hopes to make an impact at his new club:
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-49-cents and the euro at 19-rand-54-cents.
