Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# We kick off with rugby: The Springbok Women defeated Spain 36-19 in a Test at the Cape Town Stadium. Libbie Janse van Rensburg, one of the try scorers, became the first Springbok Women player to score more than 200 test points. The match was a preparation for the second edition of the Women’s Fifteen, which starts at the end of the month. Performance coach, Swys de Bruin, praised the defensive attitude and attacking prowess of his team:
# Cricket: Proteas all-rounder Wiaan Mulder says their historic loss to Afghanistan in the first one-day international in Sharjah was painful and they need to do better. He top scored for South Africa with 52 in their six-wicket loss to Afghanistan on Wednesday after they were bowled out for 106. The second ODI will be played today. Mulder says they need to find better plans to combat Afghanistan’s young off-spinner, Allah Mohammed Ghafanzar, who took three wickets:
# Boxing: Two British heavyweights Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois will clash for the IBF belt in front of a record crowd of 96-thousand at Wembley Stadium in London tomorrow. Dubois won the interim IBF title in June and was elevated to world champion status when Ukraine’s Oleksandr Usyk vacated. LIV players will now be offered membership into the PGA of America, the same membership granted to PGA Tour players, those on the DP World Tour, and nine other circuits around the world. PGA of America says the decision to add LIV to its list of approved tours, is to ensure that the US Ryder Cup team continues to have access to the best American players.
# And finally, motorsport: Mercedes’ driver Lewis Hamilton has criticised FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem for suggesting that Formula One drivers sound like rappers when using swear words over team radio. Ahead of this weekend’s Singapore Grand Prix, Ben Sulayem, said they have to differentiate between motorsport and rap music. Hamilton said he understood Ben Sulayem’s concerns over excessive swearing, but there was a racial element to stereotypical’ language, understanding that most rappers are black.
