# Future Forex CEO, Harry Scherzer says the strengthening of rand against the US dollar will continue to benefit South Africans. He says the rand hitting its strongest level against the US dollar in 14 months yesterday, is undoubtedly good news for over-burdened consumers and businesses alike. Scherzer says with cheaper imports resulting from a stronger rand, everyone will feel a little less pressure on their wallets and at the petrol pumps:
# The Standing Committee on Public Accounts is confident that South African Airways can fully recover if key recommendations are implemented. SCOPA chairperson Songezo Zibi stressed the need for stronger internal controls. These include filling executive vacancies, stabilising governance, improving financial oversight, addressing audit findings and effective governance structures:
# The DA in Gauteng is calling on premier Panyaza Lesufi to remove Health Department head Lesiba Arnold Malotana. He is currently under investigation by the Special Investigating Unit for allegedly sharing an eight-million-rand bribe with two other officials. The Public Service Commission has also been requested to investigate Malotana’s appointment and whether he has the necessary degree for the role. The DA’s Jack Bloom says a radical change in the department’s top management is needed to cut rampant corruption:
# Tennis: Novak Djokovic has hinted he may not play in the prestigious ATP Finals in November after publicly admitting he is cutting down his schedule. The Serbian won the title in Turin for an unprecedented seventh time last year, moving clear of his great rival Roger Federer’s tally of six. The 37-year-old is currently in Bulgaria where he took on local hero Grigor Dimitrov in an entertaining exhibition match in Sofia last night to raise funds for the Bulgarian’s foundation. Dimitrov won 6-4, 2-6, 10-5.
# Financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-54-cents and the euro at 19-rand-51-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-20-cents and Bitcoin trades at 59-thousand-509-dollars-56-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-569-dollars-28-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 73-dollars-19-cents a barrel.
# And finally: The Princess of Wales has held her first engagement since revealing that she has completed her chemotherapy treatment. The 42-year-old Katherine resumed work by hosting a meeting at Windsor Castle. Kate provided the health update last week in a deeply personal video message. She said the past nine months had been challenging but she is looking forward to being back at work. Kate had received a course of chemotherapy for an unspecified form of cancer since February. She will resume a light schedule of duties for the remainder of the year.
