# The presidency says deputy president Paul Mashatile is in good health and is resting at home. He collapsed delivering the keynote address, in 36 degrees Celsius heat, at the N’wamitwa Day Celebrations in Greater Tzaneen, Limpopo, on Saturday. Mashatile’s acting spokesperson Keith Khoza thanked South Africans for their support and prayers for the deputy president:
# Basic Education minister Siviwe Gwarube will meet with the National Treasury this week regarding budget cuts affecting the education sector. Gwarube held an impromptu meeting with five teacher unions during the department’s Strategic Planning session in Pretoria, focusing on the impact of budget cuts. The unions emphasised the need for grants to maintain education quality. Gwarube assured that there are ongoing efforts to prevent further cuts:
# The Gauteng MEC for Education Matome Chiloane says incomplete online learner registrations and late registrations will be accommodated from 11 December. Chiloane confirmed that 19-thousand-and-32 incomplete registrations have been received. The MEC said that 325-thousand-858 complete registrations will be prioritised. In addition, Chiloame also warned that not all parents will be allowed to appeal for schools accepted:
# British prime minister Keir Starmer is accused of breaching parliamentary rules. He allegedly failed to declare that the influential businessman and Labour Party donor Waheed Alli bought expensive clothes for his wife Victoria, provided a personal shopper, and paid for alterations. British media report Starmer’s registered financial interests show several donations from Alli, including multiple pairs of glasses, work clothes, and accommodation. But the donations to his wife are not listed. The Conservative Party is calling for a full investigation.
# Motorsport: McLaren’s Oscar Piastri held Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc off to win the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Mercedes’ George Russell finished third after benefitting from a crash in the penultimate lap between Red Bull’s Sergio Pérez and Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz. McLaren’s Lando Norris finished fourth, reducing his deficit to Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, who finished fifth, to 59 points in the drivers’ championship. McLaren now leads Red Bull in the constructors’ championship by 20 points. Piastri says this is one of the best races of his career:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-72-cents and the euro at 19-rand-65-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-28-cents and Bitcoin trades at 59-thousand-185-dollars-17-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-580-dollars-8-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 71-dollars-69-cents a barrel.
# And finally: The family of former Public Enterprises minister Pravin Gordhan says the outpouring of grief, patriotism, and social cohesion in the aftermath of his passing has been comforting. The 75-year-old died in hospital on Friday. The family has requested that instead of floral tributes, donations rather be made to the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation. President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared a Special Official Funeral Category 2 for the struggle stalwart, which will be held on Thursday.
