# Five people have died when their sedan overturned and caught fire on the D2945 Road between Mgobobodzi and Madadeni, Mpumalanga this morning. A sixth person who is critically injured is receiving hospital care. Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liason spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, says MEC Jackie Macie has urged motorists to drive cautiously, emphasising the need to respect road rules to prevent further tragedies:
# The Democratic Nursing Organisation of South Africa urges more resources to ensure hospitals function optimally. This follows recent concerns at Helen Joseph Hospital in Johannesburg, highlighting inadequate infrastructure and resources. Denosa’s Simphiwe Gada has called for better funding for hospital resources:
# Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane has given parents seven days to finalise Grade 1 and 8 school placements, starting tomorrow. Chiloane said that placement offers will be sent out, and parents are advised to check the education portal if they don’t receive a message. He said that the department is currently dealing with 325-thousand-858 completed registrations:
# A surface-to-surface missile was fired at central Israel from Yemen early this morning. Israel’s military says it hit an unpopulated area and caused no injuries. Air raid sirens sounded in Tel Aviv and across central Israel moments before the missile landed, sending residents running for shelter. Following the sirens, a surface-to-surface missile was identified crossing into central Israel from the east and falling in an open area.
# And, rugby: Sharks’ coach John Plumtree heaped praise on his team after they reached the Currie Cup final in dramatic fashion last night. The Sharks’ semi-final against the Bulls in Pretoria finished level at 40-all after 100 minutes of rugby, but the Durbanites advanced thanks to a try-count tie-breaker. They scored six tries to the Bulls’ five. The Sharks face the Lions in the final at Ellis Park, but Plumtree admits it could disrupt their URC preparations for the following week. The Sharks start their URC campaign with a three-game overseas tour.
