# Tiger Brands is accused of resisting accountability for the listeriosis crisis
# One more laboratory-confirmed Mpox case is reported, bringing the total to 25
# And, rugby: The Bok squad will be split for the two Tests against the Pumas
# Tiger Brands is accused of continuing to resist accountability for the listeriosis outbreak six years after the crisis. Despite advanced genetic evidence linking contaminated polony from Tiger Brands’ Polokwane facility to over 200 deaths, the company has yet to accept responsibility or settle claims. Briefing the media, Richard Spoor Incorporated’s senior attorney Thamsanqa Malusi says the ongoing legal maneuvers and delays are prolonging the suffering of victims and their families:
# The Department of Health has confirmed one new Mpox case, raising the total to 25 since the outbreak began in May. The latest case involves a 38-year-old man from Cape Town, who is currently in a stable condition, isolating at home. The patient showed typical Mpox symptoms but had no recent travel history or known contact with other cases. The department’s Foster Mohale says despite the new case, the risk of widespread transmission remains low:
# The Gauteng Health Committee has responded to a viral post by Tom London about patient care at Helen Joseph Hospital. The committee has requested a detailed report from the Department of Health to address the claims and strengthen complaint systems. The committee’s Ezra Letsoalo encourages Gauteng residents to use formal complaint channels as such posts often lack the comprehensive context needed to take decisive action:
# Australian police have launched an international search for a man accused of pouring hot coffee on a nine-month-old baby, causing serious burns. Queensland Police’s Paul Dalton says a 33-year-old suspect fled the country. The baby was at a family picnic in a Brisbane park in late August when the man, believed to be an itinerant worker, poured scalding coffee over its face and limbs. Police have no idea what the motive was. He was not known to the family and is now believed to be in an unnamed country.
# Rugby: Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus confirmed the national squad will be split for the two Rugby Championship Tests against the Pumas. One of the groups will fly to Argentina for the first encounter on the 21st while the rest will stay behind to start preparing for the final match in Mbombela a week later. Erasmus says the touring group has already started training together. South Africa is currently leading the log on 18 points, with Argentina on 10, meaning the Boks need another three points to secure the title.
