# Minister of Basic Education, Siviwe Gwarube, says she remains committed to finding ways to protect the education system from painful budget cuts. This while working with all stakeholders to ensure the department shield learners from the worst effects, as they seek long-term solutions with Treasury. Gwarube engaged with all provincial MECs for Education to discuss the impact of these budget cuts on their respective provinces:
# . Cosatu’s Matthew Parks says if South Africans are to halt the slide into moral anarchy, Parliament and law enforcement organs need to act when members of Parliament lose their moral bearings. He says treating political miscreants with kid gloves is not only an affront to the public but will embolden further chapters of state capture and looting:
# EFF member of Parliament and party Treasurer General, Omphile Maotwe, says the government had failed to transform the financial sector, to play a developmental role in supporting reindustrialisation. Maotwe was speaking during the discussion of the developmental role of the financial sector in Parliament. She says the current model of the financial sector that is in the hands of a few people, who control the fate of the country is never going to work:
# Rugby: South Africa fought back from behind to beat New Zealand and close in on the Rugby Championship title with just two games left. Trailing 9-3 at half-time, the world champions took the lead when captain Siya Kolisi dived over for a try converted by Handre Pollard early in the second half. Malcolm Marx’s try late in the game took the team to a final score of 18-12, and gave he Springboks their first touch of the Freedom Cup in almost 15 years. The Boks have now beaten the All Blacks four times in a row, the first time since 1949.
# And, finally: Larry the cat will get a new feline companion, with the Starmers set to introduce a Siberian kitten into Downing Street. The prime minister said his children had been lobbying for a German Shepherd, but he managed to talk them into a Siberian kitten instead. The new kitten will join a long line of pets with access to the heart of Downing Street. Larry the cat, has become a celebrity over the last decade, often appearing in the street during important political moments while serving as chief mouser to the last six prime ministers.
