# Paralympic Games: Sprinter Mpumelelo Mhlongo won gold in the men’s T44 100-meter final, securing South Africa’s first medal in Paris. He won in the season-best time of 11.12-seconds ahead of Yamel Vives Suares of Cuba who took the silver and Eddy Bernard of Malaysia who claimed bronze. Meanwhile, Khumo Pitso finished fifth in the men’s T24 high jump final, while Liezel Gouws finished eighth in the women’s T37 long jump.
# Rugby: The Springboks remain the only undefeated team in the Rugby Championship after three rounds after beating beat New Zealand 31-27 at Ellis Park on Saturday. The Boks lead the competition with 14 points, followed by the All Blacks with six points, Argentina with five, and Australia with four. The Wallabies recorded their maiden win of the championship over the Pumas this weekend. Bok coach Rassie Erasmus says winning the Championship is very important, but the focus now is on facing New Zealand again in Cape Town.
# Motorsport: Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc won the Italian Grand Prix for the second time in his Formula One career. Leclerc used an alternative one-stop strategy to beat the McLarens of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. Carlos Sainz finished fourth for Ferrari ahead of Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, while Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finished sixth. With Norris finishing third he has cut Verstappen’s championship lead by eight points to 62 with eight races to go. Leclerc says it was a surprise to win given the McLarens’ pace:
# Golf: World number one Scottie Scheffler has won the season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta. The American finished on 30 under par and defeated compatriot Collin Morikawa by four strokes after an eventful round of four-under 67. Scheffler has won seven times on the PGA Tour this year and an Olympic gold medal, becoming the first player since Tiger Woods in 2007 to win seven events in a season. He says he feels like he has lived almost a full lifetime in this year alone:
# And, tennis: Defending champion Coco Gauff has been knocked out of the US Open in the fourth round, losing, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3, to fellow American Emma Navarro. Second seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus defeated Belgium’s Elise Mertens, 6-2, 6-4, to make her fourth straight US Open quarterfinal. In the men’s draw, Germany’s Alexander Zverev saw off American Brandon Nakashima, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2. There were also wins for American Frances Tiafoe and Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov. Gauff says she could have served better:
