# The MK Party is mourning the loss of six members in KwaZulu-Natal, who tragically died in a taxi fire while en route to a celebratory event in Nkandla yesterday. Spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela, says the party has vowed to support the families during this difficult time. He says that the party has saluted the bravery of the fallen members:
# The SAPS is holding its annual Commemoration Day to honor 39 officers who died in the line of duty between April 2023 and March 2024. Their names will be engraved on the Memorial Wall at the Union Buildings. Police minister Senzo Mchunu his ministry has committed to reducing crime, professionalising the SAPS, enhancing crime-fighting technology and the mental health of officers:
# UN agencies and local health officials in Gaza are launching an ambitious campaign to vaccinate 640-thousand children against polio. The rollout relies on a series of localised pauses in fighting between Israeli forces and Hamas fighters, with the first window set to begin today. To be effective, the World Health Organisation says at least 90-percent of children under ten must be immunised in a short time frame. The first confirmed case of polio in 25 years was recently discovered in Gaza. A UN expert says more children are likely to be infected.
# Rugby: Springbok captain Siya Kolisi praised the composure of his teammates for a remarkable come-from-behind 31-27 Rugby Championship victory over New Zealand Ellis Park yesterday. The Boks were ten points behind before tries from replacements Kwagga Smith and Grant Williams turned the game on its head. Kolisi, who left the field for a head injury assessment and with a suspected fractured cheekbone, afterwards said they never panic when they are behind. Coach Rassie Erasmus also praised the players’ grit against a New Zealand team that controlled the game for long periods.
# And finally, former Miss South Africa contestant, Chidimma Adetshina, has been crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2024. Adetshina, who previously withdrew from the Miss South Africa pageant due to nationality concerns, emerged victorious over 24 other contestants at the grand finale in Lagos. Representing Miss Taraba, Adetshina will receive 112-thousand-rand in cash and other prizes. She will also represent Nigeria at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico on 16 November. Born in Soweto, Adetshina has roots in Enugu State, Nigeria.
