# The world’s oldest living man, John Tinniswood, says he takes turning 112 in his stride like anything else in life. He was born in Liverpool on the 26th of August 1912. Tinniswood, who lives at a care home in Southport, England, became the world’s oldest living man in April when 114-year-old Juan Vicente Pérez Mora died. This was declared by the Guinness World Records. Tinniswood says he has no special secret on why he has lived this long, but he loves eating fish and chips every Friday.
# University of Pretoria lecturer Relebogile Mashile has been named as one of 28 founding members of the International Federation of Accountants Young Leaders Collective from across 23 countries. The chartered accountant will serve as a member until the end of 2025. The members will provide insights on some of the biggest challenges and opportunities facing the profession, including fighting corruption, artificial intelligence, and attracting and retaining talent. Mashile says this achievement underscores the importance of education and the power of perseverance in ascending to greater heights.
# Western Cape MEC for Education, David Maynier, has celebrated teaching excellence by announcing the winners of the Provincial Teaching Awards. He says these awards give educators the opportunity to showcase the incredible work that teachers in public schools do every day. Maynier says 15 provincial winners will now go on to represent the province at the National Teaching Awards, to be held in October:
# Today Namibians are commemorate their 34th Heroes’ Day at the Omuthiya Recreational Park in the Oshikoto region. Under the theme, Honouring Our Martyrs, the event will pay homage to and reflect on the bravery of the heroes and heroines of the liberation struggle, which began on August 26th, 1966, at Omugulugwombashe. Prime minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila says this paved the way for a sovereign and independent Namibia:
# And, today marks International Dog Day, a global celebration dedicated to honouring human’s beloved canine companions and raising awareness about their needs. Established in 2004 by animal advocate Colleen Paige, the day also highlights the importance of responsible pet ownership, adoption, and the welfare of dogs worldwide. Dog lovers are encouraged to spoil their pets with special treats, activities, and extra attention today.
