# NotInMyName International says the EFF must tirelessly evaluate its position within coalition governments in the municipalities and consider whether the coalition arrangements truly allow it to advance its revolutionary agenda. NotInMyName activist Lesego Mahlangu says the killing of EFF Johannesburg councillor Moshe Mphahlele not only raises questions about the conduct of police but also about the inherent compromises involved when a revolutionary party like the EFF enters coalitions that impede its ability to effect true institutional transformation:
# The High Court in Pretoria has postponed the pretrial conference on the 1.8-billion-rand corruption case against the former Department of Correctional Services commissioner, Linda Mti, former DCS Chief Financial Officer, Patrick Gillingham and former BOSASA CFO, Andries van Tonder, to January 2025. The National Prosecuting Authority’s spokesperson, Henry Mamothame, says this is to await the outcome of their application for the release of their property to apply for living and legal expenses. The matter against the former Chief Operations Officer of BOSASA, Angelo Agrizzi, is also set for 28 January.
# A 42-year-old Zimbabwean national was arrested in connection with alleged theft of a vehicle worth 4-million-rand. The vehicle belongs to a Member of Parliament. Police spokesperson, Malesela Ledwaba says the vehicle, stolen yesterday in the afternoon at a parking lot in Menlyn Mall, Pretoria, was on its way to being smuggled into Zimbabwe when the suspect was apprehended later in the evening in Lebowakgomo outside Polokwane:
# President Cyril Ramaphosa and Angola president João Lourenço has committed to continue working together and alongside other leaders in the region to ensure that the ceasefire between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda becomes permanent. President’s spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, says both South Africa and Angola are signatories to the 2013 Framework Agreement for Peace, Security, and Cooperation in the DRC and the Region, along with several other countries. Magwenya says Angola will continue to monitor its implementation:
# And, finally: the Olympic Games: President Mokgweetsi Masisi gave Botswana the afternoon off on Friday to celebrate Letsile Tebogo. He became the country’s first gold medallist and the first African to be crowned 200-metre Olympic champion. Masisi hailed the 21-year-old sprinter as “Botswana’s Sensation” after his outstanding performance. Tebogo produced a stunning run in the 200m to take gold, leaving pre-race favourite Noah Lyles trailing in third. Tebogo ran in spikes bearing his mother’s date of birth, saying he carried her with him, in a tribute after she passed away in May.
