# With August being women’s month, the City of Johannesburg is recognising the contribution women have made in the struggle for socio-economic freedom across the country. Throughout this month, the city will host a series of events and activities designed to celebrate women’s achievements and raise awareness about equality. The city’s spokesperson, Virgil James, says they believe when women are empowered, humanity is empowered as well:
# The National Arts Festival is calling on artists and producers to apply for the 2025 Curated Programme. The festival, held in Makhanda in the Eastern Cape, celebrated its 50th anniversary this year. CEO Monica Newton says curated works are given a budget to be created, rehearsed and presented by the festival and are often co-produced with other partners:
# Durban’s Wentworth Arts and Culture Organisation’s Dance Movement programme hosted its 11th annual festival at the Playhouse Theatre. It featured groundbreaking performances from disabled dancers. Led by choreographers Sufyaan Moosa, Tshediso Kabulu, and Jarryd Watson, the festival showcased the programme’s commitment to nurturing artistic talents among youth, including those with disabilities. The organisation also offers free arts education in underprivileged schools and conducts various arts initiatives in rural areas.
# Father and son duo Eugene and Dan Levy are reportedly in talks to host the 76th Emmy Awards at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on the 15th of next month. They have presented together at awards ceremonies before, including the 2020 SAG Awards, and once guest-hosted the Ellen Show. The Levy’s are best known for creating the award-winning comedy series Schitt’s Creek, which earned 15 Emmy nods for its final season in 2020. FX’s Shogun leads this year’s Emmy nominations with a record-setting total of 25.
# And, the luxury Italian brand Dolce and Gabbana has created a perfume for dogs named Fefé. It is named after Domenico Dolce, one half of the famous designer duo’s dog. The bottle features a 24-carat gold-plated paw print and is priced at over two-thousand-rand. Purchases come with a D&G dog collar and a tag. The company says Fefé has been safety-tested and approved by vets. It adds that the perfume offers a touch of opulence, making every dog walk a fragrant and fashionable affair.
