In this bulletin:
# The private security authority’s scrutiny of an illegal military training camp in Mpumalanga continues
# Israel blames Hezbollah for a deadly strike on a Golan Heights soccer field
# And, rugby: The Bulls continue their dominance of the Currie Cup season
# The Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority says its investigations at an illegal military training base near White River, Mpumalanga, are ongoing and is being given the highest priority. PSiRA’s spokesperson, Mpho Sechoaro, says they learnt late last week a security service provider, Milites Dei Security Services, registered with the authority, was allegedly conducting military style training for 95 Libyan nationals on a farm:
In reaction, the ATM says South Africa remains a high-risk destination because of undocumented immigrants, money laundering, terrorist financing and other illicit activities. ATM national spokesperson Zama Ntshona says after the arrest of the Libyan nationals in Mpumalanga, the party calls on government to take immediate and comprehensive action to address systemic deficiencies to ensure the safety of citizens:
# The City of Tshwane has dispatched water tankers to provide water to various areas in Regions 2, 3 and 6, which are already experiencing a water supply interruption. This is due to Rand Water’s comprehensive maintenance programme of their Mapleton System that supplies water to Tshwane. The city’s spokesperson, Lindela Mashigo, says roaming water tankers will operate from 7am until 10pm in Mamelodi, Olympus, Parkmore, Garsfontein, Grootfontein and Monument Park for the duration of the service interruption:
# Israel says twelve people, including children, have been killed in a rocket strike on a soccer pitch in the occupied Golan Heights. They blame the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, which is denying the claim. The Israel Defence Forces say they are preparing a response to the deadliest strike on its territory since the start of the conflict in Gaza. Earlier yesterday, at least 30 Palestinians were killed in an Israeli strike on a girls’ school being used by displaced people in the central Gazan city of Deir Al-Balah.
# And, rugby: The Bulls demolished Western Province 50-34 in a Currie Cup game at Loftus Versfeld yesterday. Flyhalf Jaco van der Walt scored 25 points as the Bulls overturned a 24-point deficit for the win. Province suffered their third defeat of the season. In Johannesburg, the Sharks surprised the Lions with a rare 35-22 bonus-point victory at Ellis Park. Junior Springbok Jurenzo Julius scored two tries on debut for the Sharks, while veteran flyhalf Lionel Cronje contributed 15 points with the boot.
