Good day, let’s look at the latest sports news and scores:
# We start with Olympics: Veteran Springbok Sevens playmaker Rosko Specman says they are ready for a tough battle with Ireland in their opening game in Paris on Wednesday. New Zealand and Japan are the other two teams in Pool A. Specman, who was part of the team that won the bronze medal in Rio in 2016, says it does not get any bigger than the Games:
Meanwhile, Springbok 2019 World Cup winner Sbu Nkosi has reportedly tested positive for a banned substance. According to Sunday newspaper Rapport, the 28-year-old returned a positive test for an anabolic steroid mainly used by bodybuilders. He was one of three Boks tested by World Rugby in May. If Nkosi’s B sample also tests positive, he faces a potential ban of up to four years. He is the fourth Springbok to test positive for banned substances since 2019 after Aphiwe Dyantyi, Chiliboy Ralepelle, and Elton Jantjies.
# Golf: American Xander Schauffele secured a second Major of the season, winning The Open by two shots at Royal Troon in Scotland. He is the first player to win The Open and US PGA Championship in the same year since Rory McIlroy in 2014. England’s Justin Rose and American Billy Horschel finished tied in second place, and South Africa’s Thriston Lawrence fourth. Schauffele says winning his second Major is special:

He eventually heeded messages from the McLaren pit wall to give the place back to Piastri. Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton finished third, his 200th F1 podium.
# And, cycling: Twenty-five-year-old Tadej Pogačar has won his third Tour de France title. The Slovakian won six of the 21 stages and completed the rare Giro d’Italia-Tour de France double, becoming the first male rider to win both in the same season in 26 years. He finished the Tour with a margin of victory of six minutes and 17 seconds, reclaiming the Tour title from two-time defending champion Jonas Vingegaard of Denmark.
