# The Health Department assures the public the Mpox outbreak is under control

# The Department of Health confirms the Mpox outbreak remains under control, with 22 positive cases reported since the outbreak’s start. These include 16 recoveries, three deaths, and three active cases. Spokesperson Foster Mohale says the public is urged to seek medical attention if experiencing symptoms, avoid gatherings, and cooperate with health officials during contact tracing to prevent further transmission:
# Public Works and Infrastructure minister, Dean Macpherson, has welcomed president Cyril Ramaphosa’s call to turn South Africa into a construction site through increased infrastructure investment. In his opening of Parliament address, the president committed to improving infrastructure, mainly water and human settlements. Macpherson says his focus will be to expand and capacitate infrastructure for the efficient and successful execution of construction projects:
# The Trump Organisation has announced a deal to partner with a Saudi Arabian developer to build a high-rise tower in Dubai. Trump Tower Dubai will target the luxury market. The development will include a Trump hotel and branded residential units. The announcement came a little over two weeks after it was announced they will build a high-rise tower in the Saudi coastal city of Jeddah. It is also developing a Trump hotel and luxury villas in the capital of neighbouring Oman, with completion expected in 2028.
# Cycling: Belgium’s Victor Campenaerts emerged from a breakaway trio to clinch victory in stage 18 of the Tour de France. This is the 32-year-old Lotto–Dstny rider’s first-ever Tour stage win. Tadej Pogacar maintained his overall race lead of three-minutes-eleven-seconds. The 25-year-old Slovenian, who is three days away from winning the gruelling race for a third time, says he is remaining confident:
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-36-cents and the euro at 19-rand-92-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-73-cents and Bitcoin trades at 63-thousand-415-dollars-55-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-418-dollars-58-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 84-dollars-85-cents a barrel.
# And finally, American stand-up comedy legend Bob Newhart died at his home in Los Angeles at the age of 94 after a series of short illnesses. He is best known for the television shows, The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart. To the younger audiences, Newhart is known for his guest appearances on The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon. Comedy great Carol Burnett has described him as kind and funny. Comedy film director Judd Apatow says Newhart’s brilliant comedy and gentle spirit made everyone he encountered so happy.
