# The Road Accident Fund is taking part in Nelson Mandela International Day today by donating to the Odirile Centre in Hammanskraal, Pretoria. The centre cares for people with mental and physical disabilities. The fund’s Noluthando Mvabaza says they will donate food, mattresses, cleaning supplies, and sporting equipment. She adds this forms part of the fund’s many programmes aimed at contributing towards reintegrating people with disabilities back into society:
# Unisa Law Clinic candidate attorney, Thembisile Mahuwa, is currently a nominee for the International Women in Law Awards under Young Achievers or Pioneers. The award ceremony will be held in Austria in September. Mahuwa has also recently been recognised by two major awards: Mail and Guardian’s Top 200 Young South Africans 2024, under the legal services category, and Sunday World’s Unsung Heroes 2024, under the education category. She says her focus is on empowering women and youth in rural communities.
# University of Fort Hare graduate Sinovuyo Sotomela has been recognised as one of the best district prosecutors working for the National Prosecuting Authority at the East London Magistrate’s Court. The 28-year-old received three awards at the NPA’s recent regional excellence awards. Sotomela was awarded The Best Performer in District Court, Most Self-Driven Performer, and Team Player. She says she loves what she does and is passionate about seeking justice.
# And to the East now: Japan-set samurai series Shogun has scored 25 nominations including Best Limited Series for the 76th Television Emmys. The stars of the hit drama series, Hiroyuki Sanada and Anna Sawai, received nods for lead actor and actress. The Bear has set a record for a comedy programme with 23 nominations. Netflix’s The Crown has received 18 nods and Baby Reindeer eleven. The most-nominated limited or anthology series this year is HBO’s True Detective: Night Country, with 19.
# And finally, the organisers of British singer Adele’s upcoming Munich shows are aiming to get into the Guinness World Records for the largest outdoor screen of all time, measuring 220 metres in length. About 74-thousand fans are expected to watch her every night in a specially-built pop-up stadium for ten shows next month. Adele says the video installation will enhance the experience for fans. The venue will also host an Adele experience featuring an English pub and stalls selling specially designed cocktails.
