In the men’s singles, Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz successfully defended his title to win his fourth Grand Slam title. The 21-year-old beat seven-time champion Novak Djokovic of Serbia in straight sets to join a rare group of six players who have won at Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same year. Twenty-four-time major winner Djokovic aimed to take sole ownership of the record for the most Grand Slam singles titles. Alcaraz says it’s a dream for him to win Wimbledon again:
# And, soccer: Spain defeated England two-one to win the European Championship for an unprecedented fourth time. Mikel Oyarzabal’s 86th-minute goal won it for La Roja after substitute Cole Palmer cancelled out player of the match Nico Williams’ opener. Spain won all seven games in the tournament without needing penalties, a record at the Euros. England is the first team to lose consecutive European finals. Manager Gareth Southgate says he is devasted but extremely proud of his players:
