# And, tennis: A sweet Wimbledon victory for the Czech Republic’s Barbora Krejcíkova
# ANC secretary general Fikile Mbalula says South Africans live in a rule-of-law country, and people use the courts to determine what they want. He adds former president Jacob Zuma is someone who believes in litigation. Mbalula says the ANC has scheduled the disciplinary hearing for Zuma, who now heads the MK Party, for Wednesday, in order to terminate his ANC membership. He adds their task is to handle the matter within the confines of the party’s constitution and of the law:
# Three Gauteng police members have been arrested following a robbery at an Engen garage in Welkom in the Free State. Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says in images on social media, two men and a woman are seen wearing police bullet proof vests and masks. Mathe says they pulled over a vehicle and ordered the driver to step out. The man refused and drove to the nearest filling station with the police members following him. They allegedly grabbed his cellphone and sped off:
# The Hamas-run Health ministry in Gaza says 90 Palestinians have been killed in an Israeli air strike on a designated humanitarian area. Around 290 people were injured. The strike was on the al-Mawasi area near Khan Younis, which had been designated as a humanitarian zone, with the Israeli military urging Palestinians to seek shelter there. According to Israel, the strike targeted senior Hamas leaders in an open area where there were no civilians.
# The FBI has identified the alleged gunman who tried to assassinate former president Donald Trump as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks. The attack at a campaign rally in Butler, western Pennsylvania, left an audience member dead and two other men critically injured. Crooks, who was from Pennsylvania, was shot dead by FBI agents. After being rushed away with blood on his face, Trump confirmed he had been shot in the ear and “there was much bleeding”. He has landed in New Jersey in his private yet, planning to spend time at his private golf club.
# And, tennis: The Czech star Barbora Krejcíkova won her first Wimbledon title yesterday when she overpowered Italy’s Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 in a thrilling women’s final. It was her second Grand Slam after winning the French Open in 2021. Krejcikova’s season was disrupted by injury, causing her to tumble down the world rankings. But that changed on Centre Court. She takes home 290-million-rand, with the women earning the same as the men since 2007. This means Carlos Alcaraz or Novak Djokovic will pocket the same amount after this afternoon’s men’s final.
