# Former US president Donald Trump was rushed off stage by Secret Service agents after a shooting at a campaign rally that left an audience member dead and two others critically injured. A bullet grazed Trump’s ear and left blood on his face at the rally in Butler, western Pennsylvania. The shooter was killed. The FBI and Secret Service is investigating the incident as an assassination attempt. America’s ABC News reports the attacker had been on the roof of an adjacent venue, so did not go through security screening.
# Back home: The minister in Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, says government wants everyone who was involved in looting the VBS Bank of 1.9-billion-rand, and implicated by the former chairperson of the bank, Tshifhiwa Matodzi’s affidavit, to be prosecuted. Ntshavheni addressed the media during the first cabinet lekgotla of the government of national unity at the Sefako Makgatho Presidential Guest House in Pretoria. She says government has being supporting the victims of the VBS Bank looting since the matter was uncovered in 2018:
# The Democratic Nursing Organisation in the Western Cape says patient turnout is low in most facilities due to the inclement weather. Denosa secretary Sabelo Ntshanga describes the situation as worrisome as this could worsen the condition of patients who need treatment. Ntshanga says many patients are on chronic medication and if their access to healthcare facilities is hindered, they face the risk of defaulting:
# AfriForum and representatives of the Afrikaner Foundation are traveling the world to meet with opinion makers, politicians and organisations interested in the current state of affairs in South Africa. They are determining how minority groups, such as Afrikaners, respond to circumstances. AfriForum’s Ernst van Zyl says ten years ago, those they encountered internationally knew little about South Africa’s crises. Van Zyl says today they are aware of the the extent of the crises and are interested in solutions:
# And, rugby: Ireland’s replacement flyhalf Ciaran Frawley kicked the second of his drop goals just before the whistle to beat the Springboks 25-24 in the second Test in Durban, and managed to consign the world champions to a drawn series. The visitors were the better team in the first half and took a 10-point lead into half time. The Springboks fought back in the second half. But the luck of the Irish forced them to surrender a six-game winning streak, stretching back to the 2023 World Cup.
