# IFP leader Velenkosini Hlabisa has urged the ANC and DA to resolve outstanding issues hindering the formation of the government of national unity. Hlabisa highlights the necessity of setting aside personal interests and finalising the new cabinet to address the nation’s pressing issues. Hlabisa says the IFP remains committed to the unity government, calling for all parties to expedite the resolution of outstanding matters:
# The Department of Water and Sanitation says residents and businesses in certain areas of Gauteng are currently experiencing severe disruptions to their water supply due to Rand Water’s planned maintenance. The department’s spokesperson, Wisane Mavasa, says the Rand Water programme currently underway has resulted in a partial reduction in the amount of water they can supply to Gauteng municipalities:
# The City of Tshwane has implemented stringent measures to bolster financial management and curb expenditure leaks. The municipality has spent 83.5-percent of its adjusted capital budget of two-billion-rand, totalling 1.6-billion-rand, with total expenditure, including commitments, reaching 92.9-percent. The city’s Selby Bokaba says they remain committed to prudently managing public funds, striving for optimal expenditure ahead of the new financial year:
# Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelensky has revealed he is working on a comprehensive plan to end the war with Russia. At a news conference in Kiev, he promised the plan is based on the diplomatic route as it has to be supported by the majority of the world’s nations. Observers say there are no current negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, with the two sides appearing as far apart as ever regarding the terms of a potential peace settlement.
# And, cycling: Defending champion Jonas Vingegaard begins his quest for a third consecutive Tour de France title today when the race starts in Florence in sizzling heat. Fans have flocked into the city for the start of the 111th edition of the Tour, a 21-day 3-thousand-498-kilometre run that crosses the Alps twice and ends on the French Riviera on 21 July. The race is billed as a four-way struggle between Vingegaard, former champion and favourite Tadej Pogacar, former Vuelta and Giro champion Primoz Roglic and newcomer Remco Evenepoel.
