# The Thabo Mbeki Foundation says the upcoming National Dialogue seeks to outline measures needed to tackle South Africa’s political crisis. Following the foundation’s call for discussions on the country’s future, Chairperson Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi highlighted the need for collective efforts from all sectors of society. She indicated that the dialogue will engage communities at all levels to revive the nation’s political, economic, and social fabric:
# The National Energy Crisis Committee convenes its fourth Demand Side Management Indaba in Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality. Government, Eskom, and private sector experts are addressing South Africa’s energy crises. Chairperson Rudi Dicks told the SABC that the indaba aims to implement energy action plans, reduce demand, amongst others. He also mentions that the National Transmission Company of South Africa will commence operations on 1 July:
# The City of Tshwane has underspent 1.5-billion-rand in conditional grants and subsidies allocated for transport, housing, and informal settlements upgrades. A report tabled before the council yesterday revealed that as of end March, only 73-percent of National Treasury grants were utilised, risking funds being returned. The city may seek rollover of unspent funds into the next financial year, starting Monday.
# Junior hospital doctors in England began a five-day strike yesterday, a week before a general election in which the state of the National Health Service is a major issue. The NHS is grappling with a massive backlog caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. A recent survey suggested that less than a quarter of Britons were satisfied with the NHS, an unprecedented level. As well as delays to operations and starting cancer treatment, the public also face long waits to see a doctor at their local surgery.
# Soccer: The 38-year-old former Cameroon international, Landry Nguemo, died in a traffic accident on Thursday. The Cameroon Football Federation made the announcement on its Facebook page. The Yaounde-born midfielder played 42 times and scored three goals for Cameroon between 2006 and 2014. He spent most of his club career in France, starting as a 16-year-old at the academy of AS Nancy-Lorraine. He also had stints in Turkey and Norway before returning to the Nancy Under 16s, with the desire to pass on to the kids his knowledge and experience.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-19-cents and the euro at 19-rand-46-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-1-cent and Bitcoin trades at 61-thousand-369-dollars-35-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-328-dollars-59-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 86-dollars-6-cents a barrel.
